ScotlandScottish Premiership 2026/27: Celtic beat Hearts 7-1 and go four points clear
The Scottish Premiership is Scotland's top division, formed in 2013, and Celtic and Rangers have won the large majority of Scottish titles. Twelve teams play 33 rounds, after which the league splits into a top six and a bottom six for five more games. The bottom club is relegated and 11th place goes into a play-off. Celtic are the defending champions: they won the 2025/26 title by two points from Heart of Midlothian, who had led after the first 33 rounds.
After nine rounds Celtic lead with 24 points after a 7-1 win over Hearts, and they have both the best attack and the best defence, 23 goals scored and five conceded. Rangers are four points behind after a 2-2 draw at Dundee ended their run of five straight wins. Hearts are third on 16 and have won all four home games.
Hibernian are bottom with seven points after a 2-1 home defeat to Falkirk, and Motherwell and St Mirren have both lost five in a row.
Celtic's Camilo Durán and Hearts' Joshua McPake have the most assists, five each.
