Serie B 2026/27: Palermo win at Mantova to go five points clear

Serie B is the second tier of Italian football. Twenty teams meet home and away over 38 rounds. The top two are promoted to Serie A directly and the next six play off for the third place, while the bottom three are relegated and 16th and 17th meet in a relegation play-out. Venezia won the title last season ahead of Frosinone, and Monza went up through the play-offs. Palermo's Joel Pohjanpalo was the top scorer with 25 goals.

After seven rounds Palermo lead with 19 points after a 2-0 win at Mantova, who are second, five points behind. Palermo are the only unbeaten side and have won all three home games. Pisa and Modena are third and fourth on 13, and Ascoli have the best defence, five goals conceded.

Sampdoria lost 2-1 at home to Arezzo and are 19th with four points, in the relegation zone with Catanzaro and Juve Stabia.

Verona's Mosquera and Cesena's Cristian Shpendi lead the scorers with six goals, and Palermo's Dennis Johnsen has the most assists, five.
