Shakhtar Donetsk vs AEK Athens preview: two unbeaten domestic sides meet
Shakhtar Donetsk host AEK Athens on Wednesday evening (21:00 CEST). Shakhtar drew 1-1 at PSV Eindhoven on the opening night, and AEK beat LASK 1-0 in Athens.
Both clubs are near the top at home. Shakhtar lead the Ukrainian Premier League with 21 points from eight games, having conceded only four goals, and won 3-0 at Veres Rivne on Friday. AEK are second in the Greek Super League, unbeaten with 14 points from six games and only three goals conceded, and beat OFI 3-0 at the weekend.
This is the first competitive meeting between the two clubs; their only previous game was a friendly in July 2023, which AEK won 5-0.
