Brasileirão Série A

Brasileirão Série A: Flamengo lead Palmeiras by a single point

The Brasileirão Série A is Brazil's top division: 20 clubs play each other home and away over 38 rounds, with no play-offs. The top places lead to the Copa Libertadores and the next group to the Copa Sudamericana, while the bottom four are relegated to Série B.

With eight rounds left, Flamengo are top on 64 points, just one ahead of Palmeiras. Flamengo are unbeaten in their last five and have the league's best attack with 58 goals, while Palmeiras have the meanest defence, conceding only 22. Athletico Paranaense are a distant third on 53, ahead of Fluminense (51) and Bahia (49).

The relegation fight is tight. Internacional (32 points) and Grêmio (31) are both in the drop zone, level with or just behind Corinthians in 16th, who have lost their last five matches. Remo (25) and Chapecoense (18) are further adrift. Athletico's Kevin Viveros leads the scoring charts with 21 goals, five more than Flamengo's Pedro.
