Besta deild 2026: Víkingur Reykjavík eight points clear before the split

The Besta deild, Iceland's top division, is known in English as the Úrvalsdeild, and KR Reykjavík are its most successful club. Twelve teams play 22 rounds, after which the league splits into a top six and a bottom six for five more games. Víkingur Reykjavík are the defending champions after winning the 2025 title by 12 points from Valur.

After 22 rounds Víkingur lead with 53 points, eight ahead of Fram, having lost only once all season and scored 67 goals. KR are third on 44 and have the league's most productive attack, 74 goals. Valur, last season's runners-up, are eighth and go into the bottom six.

ÍBV are bottom with 18 points, just behind KA Akureyri on 20.
